The Magic of Double Scoop

Double Scoop is classic Hallmark: there’s romance, a dash of humor, and plenty of pretty scenery. The story follows Nora (Taylor Cole), who stumbles on the best ice cream and hopes to land them as a client.

But things get complicated when her former colleague James (Ryan McPartlin) has exactly the same idea. Old sparks fly, and what starts as frosty tension melts into something warmer.

Meet the Stars

Taylor Cole, playing Nora, is a familiar face for Hallmark fans. She’s starred in Long Lost Christmas, Pumpkin Everything, and the Ruby Herring Mysteries, just to name a few.

Outside of Hallmark, you might’ve seen her in The Originals, Impastor, Summerland, The Glades, or CSI: Miami. Ryan McPartlin, who plays James, is best known for his role as Devon in NBC’s Chuck.

He’s also popped up in Hunter Killer, Community, Mad Men, Fuller House, Ghosted, Hart of Dixie, Rizzoli & Isles, and CSI: Miami. His Hallmark credits include A Very Vermont Christmas and Cut Color Murder.

A Southern Setting for a Northern Tale

Though Double Scoop is set in New York and Wisconsin, the filming actually took place in Birmingham, Alabama. Taylor Cole mentioned her excitement about the locations in an interview with EntertainmentNow.

“We were on a farm and I did a bunch of different, fun things that I never thought I would get the opportunity to do, which is so fun,” she said. The farm scenes were filmed at Fortner Farm, a family-run petting zoo in Holly Pond, Alabama, with over 30 adorable animals on hand.

Farm Fun and Furry Friends

Fortner Farm set the stage for some of the movie’s sweetest moments. Taylor Cole got to bottle-feed a calf, milk a cow, and cuddle a baby goat.

“I love animals of all kinds,” she shared, “and I did so many bucket list items that are probably not on anyone else’s bucket list.” Even the farm’s baby doll sheep made it into the film.

Not everyone had the same experience, though. Ryan McPartlin, who has allergies, found himself dealing with a few sniffles, but it turned into a running joke on set.

Behind-the-Scenes Moments

Filming spanned three weeks in Alabama, with many scenes shot at Paramore Farm in Harpersville. Tim and Carol Paramore’s place offered a picturesque backdrop that fit the movie’s vibe perfectly.

In an interview with Southern Living, Cole recalled spending time with a sweet baby goat that, honestly, had fleas. “It was so fun,” she laughed.

The cast and crew also filmed in Montevallo, which added even more variety and charm to the movie’s look.

Cast Connections and Cameos

Besides Taylor Cole and Ryan McPartlin, the cast includes Elisa Donovan as Alexandra and Patrick Muldoon as Everett. Chonda Pierce steps in as Ann Marie Darlington.

Other familiar faces: Tim Abell as Matthew Darlington, Julie Haught as Violet, Sofia Shakarian as Josie, Jacklyn Collier as Shannon, Eli Brand as Waylon, J. Elliott as Tim, Jakeem Hawkins as Lavery, Michael Mazzeo as Leo, Charlene Amoia as Mayor Alison, Ashley Dulaney as Hannah, Griffin Hood as Caegan, Sierra DeRose as a server, and Adrian Rich as the guy in the suit.

First-Time Hallmark Experiences

For a few cast members, Double Scoop is their first foray into the Hallmark universe. Sofia Shakarian posted a video with some behind-the-scenes moments, clearly thrilled to be part of her first Hallmark film.

Jacklyn Collier, who used to host Hallmark’s podcast Bubbly Sesh, pops up in the movie too. She shared a photo with Taylor Cole, giving fans a glimpse of the fun on set.
