Hallmark Stars Erin Karpluk and Ali Liebert Reveal Life-Changing Sobriety Journeys You Won’t Believe

When Hallmark Channel rolls out the third movie in its “Three Wise Men” trilogy this holiday season, most folks will be watching the three beloved male leads — Tyler Hynes, Andrew Walker, and Paul Campbell. But honestly, their female co-stars deserve a little spotlight, too, for how they’re showing up both in the movies and in real life.

Within weeks of filming “The Wisest Men” in August 2025, Ali Liebert and Erin Karpluk both opened up about their personal journeys with sobriety. In July, before filming even started, Liebert marked 18 years sober with a heartfelt post about her journey. Meanwhile, on September 7, Karpluk celebrated six years of sobriety, calling quitting alcohol the best decision I ever made.

Erin Karpluk: Six Years Sober and Thriving

Karpluk, who played Tyler Hynes’ love interest in 2024’s “Three Wiser Men and a Boy,” is back for the “Three Wisest Men” movie. It’s set to premiere during Hallmark’s 16th annual Countdown to Christmas.

On September 7, Karpluk posted a video of herself dancing on a lakeside dock and wrote, 6 Year Booze Free 🤸🏼‍♂️ I say it every year … best decision I have ever made 🪽

She also took to her Instagram Stories to share a bit more about why breaking up with alcohol has been such a game-changer. Karpluk said she rarely thinks about her sobriety now unless someone asks or she hits a milestone.

The Challenges and Triumphs

The past year was especially tough, she told fans. She lost her dad and spent time helping friends and family after wildfires devastated her hometown of Jasper, Alberta.

I know that I could not have gone through these big grieving periods of life had I been escaping or numbing out with alcohol, Karpluk said in her Instagram Stories. That’s my journey. I always like to share that with people. If it resonates with you, break up with that shizz!

In a follow-up Story, she added, I don’t mean to sound preachy about it because … this is just my experience. There’s so many people in my life that still drink. You do you, I always say.

I just encourage people when they come and ask me about it, I’m just like, ‘Examine your own relationship with alcohol — what’s the good, what’s the bad it brings to your life.’

Empower Yourself

Ultimately, Karpluk continued, it’s up to you to empower yourself to see where it fits.

She went on, All of my fears about, you know, ‘Will I be able to have a relationship? Will I still be able to act? Will I still be able to go out at night to functions? Will I still be able to date? Will I still be able to have Christmas dinner?’ My experience is I show up for all of those things 300 million times better because I’m my authentic self there, not a different version of myself.

Karpluk, who’s also known for Hallmark Channel’s “Fixer Upper Mysteries” and Lifetime’s 2025 drama “Do Exactly As I Say,” wrapped up with, If you do have that fear of like, ‘Oh god, I have to give it up,” thank God! Because it gets better. That’s my experience.

Ali Liebert: Celebrating 18 Years of Sobriety

Liebert, meanwhile, played Hynes’ girlfriend in the first movie, “Three Wise Men and a Baby.” She popped up in behind-the-scenes footage from the third movie (maybe a love triangle brewing?).

On July 15, she celebrated 18 years of sobriety, writing in her Instagram Stories, 18 years sober today … Incredibly grateful for it all.

A Journey of Gratitude

Liebert, who directed 2025’s “Love of the Irish,” also marked her milestone the year before. She posted several photos from a sandy beach and captioned them, Took a dip in the ocean last night and as the sun was setting, felt overwhelming grateful for all of the beautiful people and experiences in my life.

A couple was getting married on the beach and we all cheered and clapped. A group of friends screamed and laughed pushing each other further into the chilly water. A man and his dog took many, many sunset selfies.

Life’s Little Moments

Liebert summed it up: Ah life. It’s the little moments. Celebrating 17 years clean & sober today. What a miracle. What a gift.

A New Era for Hallmark’s Leading Ladies

The upcoming “Three Wisest Men” movie is already getting people talking. The chemistry between the cast, both male and female, promises another heartwarming hit.

But honestly, it’s the real-life stories of resilience and personal growth that make this film stand out.
