Hallmark’s Countdown to Christmas Kicks Off Holiday Movie Merriment

Your holiday watchlist just got a serious upgrade. Hallmark Channel has launched its biggest Countdown to Christmas lineup ever, with 34 original movies packed into a 10-week celebration of romance, family, community and seasonal magic. The 2026 event began October 16 and runs through December 20, with new premieres, familiar holiday favorites and a Thanksgiving-weekend schedule made for cozy nights in. From an NFL-inspired love story to a Disney World holiday film, there’s plenty to catch your eye. Here’s what makes this year different, which dates deserve a calendar reminder and how to watch without missing a premiere.

Hallmark Is Going Bigger Than Ever for Christmas 2026

Now in its 17th edition, Countdown to Christmas is expanding instead of simply dusting off its familiar holiday formula. Hallmark says this year brings 10 more original movie premieres than 2025, making the 34-film schedule the largest in the annual Hallmark Channel event’s history.

The celebration goes beyond those new releases, too. Hallmark’s holiday programming continues around the clock in the days leading up to Christmas and beyond, so viewers can drop into a festive story even when there isn’t a premiere on the schedule.

The Familiar Holiday Appeal Is Still the Main Attraction

More movies doesn’t mean abandoning the ingredients viewers come for. Hallmark describes a lineup of heartfelt romance, family connections, community ties, yuletide adventures and whimsy. Hallmark Media president Darren Abbott also highlighted the heartfelt, inspiring storytelling associated with the network’s Christmas films.

That’s the appeal of this supersized schedule: more chances to find a seasonal favorite. Maybe your ideal December viewing is a romance, a family-centered story or just a little holiday wonder.

The Opening Weekend Brought Setups, Football and Christmas Chemistry

The festivities kicked off Friday, October 16, with ’Tis the Season for Setups at 8 p.m. ET/PT. It opened a three-night launch designed to get the holiday viewing habit started well before Halloween.

Saturday, October 17, brought Holiday Touchdown: A Bears Love Story, followed by Mr. & Mrs. Christmas on Sunday, October 18. Together, the three premieres established the Friday-through-Sunday rhythm that anchors most of the event.

The NFL Partnership Returned for Another Installment

Holiday Touchdown: A Bears Love Story is the third installment in Hallmark Channel’s partnership with the NFL and Skydance Sports. For viewers who enjoy the overlap between football fandom and holiday romance, it was a notable opening-weekend pick.

Sunday also featured the Christmas Kisses Movie Marathon from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. ET/PT. The lineup included One December Night, The Christmas Contest, Return to Christmas Creek and A Christmas Together with You, a full afternoon of familiar favorites before the evening premiere.

The Thanksgiving Weekend Detail You Should Not Miss

If you remember one scheduling exception, make it this: Thanksgiving weekend starts earlier in the evening. During Merry Thanksgiving Week, Friday through Sunday each have premieres at both 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. ET/PT.

So if you switch on at the usual 8 p.m. time, you’ll miss the first premiere of the night. Add Christmas Delivered on Thanksgiving Day, November 26, and the long weekend has seven new movies.

How to Watch Without Rearranging Every Weekend

All new movies debut on Hallmark Channel, with the standard premiere time set for 8 p.m. ET/PT. The Thanksgiving double features are the main exceptions, so keep an eye out for those earlier starts.

Prefer streaming on your own schedule? Every new movie will be available on Hallmark+ the next day. It’s an easy way to catch up when holiday parties, travel or everyday plans clash with premiere night. With 34 originals in the mix, flexibility might be the most useful Christmas extra this year.
