Hallmark’s Eight Nights for Love Brings Hanukkah Magic

Hallmark has made plenty of holiday romances, but Eight Nights for Love has a hook that could help it stand out: an antique menorah sends its heroine back to a different point in her life on each night of Hanukkah. Add a best friend who might be the love of her life, a valuable Judaica collection, and a co-writer of the much-loved Round and Round, and this film has the makings of a holiday surprise worth watching.

A Magical Menorah Complicates a Familiar Friendship

Hannah, played by Hunter King, works for a major auction house in New York City and is looking forward to taking a break over the winter holidays. Her plans change when her best friend Ethan, played by Dan Jeannotte, arrives with an opportunity too significant to ignore. He has persuaded his wealthy boss’s daughter to sell her family’s Judaica collection through Hannah’s auction house, but there’s a condition: Hannah must handle the sale herself.

The assignment brings Hannah into contact with an antique menorah and a mysterious guide named Pearl. Each night of Hanukkah, she travels back to a different time in her life. As she revisits the past, Hannah begins to see her relationship with Ethan differently. The question is no longer just whether she can manage an important sale during her time off. Could the person she’s been closest to all along be more than a friend?

Why the Time-Travel Twist Matters

A romance between longtime friends can be wonderfully satisfying, but a sudden realization isn’t always enough to make it feel earned. Hannah’s journeys through her own history give the film a way to show how her bond with Ethan developed. The magical premise could turn familiar moments into revelations, letting Hannah reconsider not only what happened, but how she understood it at the time.

There’s an appealing contrast at the center of the story, too. Hannah’s job asks her to assess the value of objects from the past, while the menorah pushes her to reassess the value of her own memories. Whether the film leans into that parallel remains to be seen, but it gives this holiday romance more to explore than a busy professional unexpectedly falling in love.

The Hanukkah Details Are Part of the Appeal

Hallmark’s preview photos suggest that Eight Nights for Love will make room for celebration as well as magic. One scene appears to feature a Hanukkah gathering that doubles as a latke cook-off. A hand grater sits among the kitchen props, ready to reignite a familiar holiday argument: Is the traditional effort worth it, or should everyone spare their knuckles and use a food processor?

Ethan also wears a summer camp shirt in the latke scene. It’s a small detail, and the film hasn’t confirmed what it means, but it raises a tempting possibility. Did he and Hannah attend a Jewish summer camp together? If so, their shared history may stretch well beyond the memories Hannah initially revisits. Even if it’s simply a costume choice, it’s the kind of lived-in touch that can make a friendship feel believable.

A Holiday Story Centered on Hanukkah

Hallmark has included Hanukkah films in its holiday lineup since 2019, though they’ve typically appeared alongside a far larger number of Christmas movies. Some earlier stories framed Hanukkah through Christmas, with Jewish characters explaining their traditions to a love interest’s family or discovering the appeal of a Christmas celebration. Eight Nights for Love appears to take a different route, placing Hanukkah, Judaica and a Jewish family celebration at the center of its plot.

That approach has a promising precedent. Tamar Laddy, who co-wrote Eight Nights for Love, also co-wrote Hallmark’s 2023 Hanukkah time-loop film Round and Round. On the Torah Smash podcast, Laddy described wanting to make something that felt connected to Jewish viewers from the inside while remaining accessible to anyone. Round and Round earned enthusiastic praise, so her return is a good reason to be curious about this new film.

A Cast That Knows Its Way Around Television Romance

King is a familiar face to Hallmark viewers and longtime fans of The Young and the Restless. She’s also the older sister of actor Joey King, a star of We Were the Lucky Ones. Both sisters are Jewish, making King’s casting in a Hanukkah-centered romance especially notable.

Jeannotte brings credits from Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, The Bold Type and Good Witch to the role of Ethan. The film also features Lauren Collins, Nicole Power, Darrin Baker, Gabriel Burrafato, Tina Jung and Felicia Shulman. Amy Meyerson co-wrote the screenplay with Laddy. The available story details don’t reveal how every supporting character fits into Hannah’s journey, so there are still a few discoveries to look forward to at the premiere.

One Date to Put on the Holiday Calendar

The biggest test for Eight Nights for Love will be whether its magical trips into the past reveal something genuinely moving about Hannah and Ethan. The setup offers plenty to explore: friendship, missed chances, and the way people change without always noticing how their closest relationships change, too. If the film gives those ideas room to breathe, its fantasy element could be more than a clever holiday gimmick.

For now, the combination is hard to resist: a magical menorah, a latke cook-off, an intriguing collection of Judaica, and two best friends who may finally see what’s right in front of them. Eight Nights for Love premieres November 29 on Hallmark and streams the following day on Hallmark+.
