Hallmark’s Holiday Touchdown: A Bears Love Story Celebrates Premiere Week
Hallmark has brought its holiday playbook to Chicago, and the Bears are doing more than lending their name to the marquee. Holiday Touchdown: A Bears Love Story pairs a familiar romantic-movie lineup with NFL stars, a Chicago setting and a premiere-week celebration rooted in the community. From Caleb Williams and Bears legends stepping into the movie spotlight to a firehouse visit honoring a fallen first responder, this collaboration reaches beyond seasonal escapism. Here’s what makes this latest Holiday Touchdown installment worth a spot on your watchlist.
Hallmark Gives Bears Fans a Holiday Movie of Their Own
Football and Christmas movies might seem like separate viewing traditions, but Hallmark is turning their combination into a franchise. This installment puts the Chicago Bears at the center, giving fans another reason to gather around the television.
A Chicago Backdrop With Serious Team Spirit
Filmed in and around Chicago, Holiday Touchdown: A Bears Love Story brings a local setting to Hallmark Channel’s 17th annual Countdown to Christmas programming event. It continues the partnership between Hallmark Media and the NFL, with the Bears becoming the latest team featured in the holiday franchise.
Skydance Sports serves as executive producer, adding another sports-entertainment connection behind the scenes. For viewers, though, the main attraction is simple: a Hallmark holiday production with recognizable Chicago faces and a team whose fans hardly need encouragement to show their loyalty.
The Cast Includes Familiar Hallmark Faces and an Awards Heavyweight
Lyndsy Fonseca and Robert Buckley lead a cast that also includes Barbara Alyn Woods, Khary Payton and Marsha Mason. Mason brings especially distinguished credentials as a four-time Academy Award nominee and two-time Golden Globe winner.
The lineup offers appeal beyond football fandom. Buckley also plays a firefighter, a detail that took on special meaning during premiere week, when Hallmark and the Bears arranged a visit with Chicago’s first responder community.
Yes, Caleb Williams and Bears Legends Make Appearances
The Bears connection goes beyond the title and a few team references. Current players, the head coach and celebrated former Bears all appear in the film, giving fans another reason to watch closely.
The Football Names to Watch For
Head coach Ben Johnson joins quarterback Caleb Williams and tight ends Cole Kmet and Colston Loveland among the current Bears appearing in the movie. Their participation brings the team directly into Hallmark’s holiday universe.
The film also reaches into franchise history. Mike Singletary, Charles Peanut Tillman and Dan Hampton make appearances, giving longtime supporters their own reasons to tune in. The mix connects different generations of Bears fans without making the movie solely about the current roster.
The Premiere Celebration Started Before the Television Debut
The rollout included more than a broadcast announcement. A private screening and an entertainment-industry event gave players, staff and guests a chance to celebrate the collaboration before its Hallmark Channel premiere.
A Private Screening Brought the Partners Together
On Tuesday, October 13, the Bears and Hallmark hosted a private screening at the Gorton Center in Lake Forest, Illinois. Bears players, coaches, front office staff, cast members and VIP guests attended.
Bears President and CEO Kevin Warren and Hallmark Media President Darren Abbott delivered opening remarks. Warren highlighted family, faith, football, positive energy, Christmas and gratitude as key themes of the partnership between the Bears, Hallmark and Skydance Sports. He presented the project as a celebration of shared values, not just a team-branded movie.
Halas Hall Hosted a Conversation About Women in Entertainment
On Wednesday, October 14, premiere week continued at Halas Hall with a Women in Entertainment panel powered by the Bears Women’s ERG. The discussion explored the career experiences and perspectives of women working across the entertainment industry.
The panel was accompanied by a screening for Bears staff. Together, the events connected the film’s release with a wider conversation about the people and careers behind entertainment.
The Most Moving Premiere-Week Moment Happened at a Firehouse
Amid the screenings and celebrity appearances, the collaboration also made space for a Chicago family facing an unimaginable loss. This moment meant far more than promoting a holiday film.
Honoring Firefighter Michael Mickey Altman
Earlier on October 13, representatives from the Bears, Bears Care and Hallmark visited Chicago Fire Department Truck 47 at 6030 N. Clark St. They were there to support first responders and the family of Firefighter/EMT Michael Mickey Altman.
Altman died in March from injuries he sustained while fighting a fire in a Rogers Park apartment building. He was 27 years old, a fourth-generation Chicago firefighter and a soon-to-be father of two.
Buckley’s firefighter role and Hallmark’s interest in supporting local first responders helped bring the network to Altman’s firehouse. Cast members and other Hallmark stars spent time with his family, fellow firefighters and their families. Hallmark also donated to the Michael Mickey Altman Memorial being built at the firehouse.
Some Fans Earned More Than a Seat on the Couch
The partnership also gave supporters an unusual chance to take part in the production. Through Bears Care, the team’s charitable arm, the opportunity supported work benefiting the wider Chicagoland community.
Walk-On Roles Helped Support Bears Care
Earlier in the year, Bears Care and Hallmark hosted an auction for featured walk-on roles. Winners Carrie May-Borich and Phillip Salamone had a particularly personal reason to watch, as did longtime Bears Season Ticket Holders, Bears Care donors and Hallmark fans Julia and Ken Wegner.
Proceeds support Bears Care’s efforts to improve quality of life throughout Chicagoland. The collaboration’s reach extends beyond what audiences see onscreen.
