The Christmas Lady of Aurora
Karen Bozarth wasn’t just a Christmas fan—she was the holiday, if you asked anyone who knew her. Her monthly countdowns were a staple, and her enthusiasm? Honestly, it was hard not to catch it.
The real magic happened in the Orchard Valley subdivision, where Karen and her husband, Jim, transformed their home into a winter wonderland. Over the years, thousands of people stopped by just to see what they’d dreamed up next.
A Home Transformed into a Wonderland
The Bozarths’ place was something else during the holidays. Every single room was decked out with:
- 35 Christmas trees
- 300 snowmen
- Hundreds of wreaths, figurines, and yuletide mementoes
But the real showstopper? The basement. That’s where they kept their Department 56 Snow Village collection.
- More than 400 buildings
- Over 1,000 accessories
- Hundreds of moving parts
- A train circling 56 separate villages
People came back year after year, and for many, the open house became a tradition. It’s funny how a collection of snowmen and tiny houses can stick with you.
A Life Filled with Love and Kindness
Karen’s generosity didn’t stop at Christmas lights and decorations. She had a way of making people feel seen, like you mattered just for being there.
Her Facebook tributes say it all. She shined a light on everyone around her, and somehow, it never seemed to dim.
Heartfelt Tributes
Friends and family called Karen:
- *One of a kind*
- *The light in everyone’s life*
- *An angel on Earth*
She just had that rare gift for connecting with people. Someone wrote, *There are some people who have sun inside them. It’s hard to explain. Their presence just brightens.* That about sums it up.
A Battle with Health Issues
Even with all that light, Karen faced some tough health battles. Heart issues slowed her down, and a fall in June left her with a broken femur.
She had to step away from her long career at Scholastic Inc. in St. Charles. Still, she never let those struggles steal her spirit or her love for Christmas.
Her Final Moments
Karen’s last moments were spent watching a Hallmark movie, just the way she liked. Jim, her husband, was with her when she slipped away quietly.
Someone wrote online, *Heaven gained the most beautiful angel on Thursday night.* That line stuck with me.
A Legacy of Love
Karen touched so many lives, but for Jordan Davis, it was personal. Jordan moved from Florida to Chicago in 2019 and met Karen through her mom, Amy.
She called Karen her “Illinois mom.” That’s not something you say lightly.
A Special Gift
Before Karen passed, she had a locket made for Jordan’s wedding. It arrived the day before she died, and Karen got to see it.
Now, the locket means even more. Jordan said, *Over the years she has been a constant light in my life, an amazing resource.*
A Final Farewell
Karen’s funeral Mass will be held August 13 at Holy Angels Catholic Church in Aurora. She leaves behind friends and family who’ll keep her memory alive—maybe with a little extra twinkle in their Christmas lights.
The End of an Era
Last December, the Bozarths announced it would be the final year for their Christmas display. Health issues made it too much.
The snow village collection, never taken down, stands as a reminder of Karen’s love for Christmas—and her wish to spread joy, even now.
Remembering Karen Bozarth
Karen Bozarth’s life was a Hallmark movie in itself. It was filled with love, kindness, and honestly, a bit of magic.
Her legacy lingers in the memories of those who knew her. She touched so many lives, it’s almost hard to count.
One Facebook tribute put it perfectly: *This woman was the light in everyone’s life; the most lovely person you could ever meet.*
Karen’s light still shines in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her. Some people just leave that kind of mark, don’t they?
