11) Carter’s Christmas Wonderland

Last year, I made it to Carter’s Christmas Wonderland in Benton Harbor, Michigan. The display sits on private property and features tons of lights and themed decorations.

You can walk around outside or just take it in from your car.

When I arrived in early December, the crowds were pretty manageable. They switch on the lights every evening.

Some displays move or play music, which adds a little extra magic. Most folks bring their families along.

Parking is along the street and entry doesn’t cost a thing. The event usually runs from late November through December.

The whole thing really relies on community effort and donations.

12) Merriman Hollow Park

When I want a relaxed holiday experience close to home, I head to Merriman Hollow Park in Westland. Wayne County manages the park, and it’s pretty easy to get there by car.

The park hosts a bunch of events, especially around the holidays, and families gather to check out the lights and join in community activities.

There’s plenty of space for walking and taking in the displays. I always find the area clean—local staff keep up with the grounds and facilities.

The atmosphere stays calm, and crowds rarely get overwhelming. That makes it a good pick for younger kids or anyone who wants to avoid the chaos of bigger venues.

Parking is free, and the open areas mean everyone can spread out. In recent years, organizers have added more decorations and lights, making the park feel super welcoming.

13) Hines Park

Every winter, I make my way to Hines Park for its annual drive-through Christmas light display. This event stretches across several miles and draws in families and groups from all over.

The light show kicks off around Thanksgiving and runs through December. Cars slowly wind through the park at night, headlights off, and the animated displays and colorful arches really set the mood.

You pay per vehicle to get in, though bigger vehicles might be charged a bit more. If you want to skip the long lines, especially on weekends, try to arrive early.

If you’re planning to hop out for photos, bundle up—it gets chilly.

Plenty of hotels sit nearby in Westland and Livonia. I’d say book ahead since the holiday season fills up fast.

14) Zoros Christmas Lights

Zoros Christmas Lights has a bunch of options for holiday displays and special events. Customers can buy, rent, or use their own lights for installation, which is pretty flexible.

The team handles setup, maintenance, and removal, so you don’t have to worry about a thing.

Zoros doesn’t just stick to Christmas, either. They handle tree rentals and lighting for weddings and other celebrations.

They’ll help you create a custom display based on what you want. I’ve noticed they really focus on building good relationships with their clients.

Instead of just selling lights, Zoros puts the spotlight on installation and service. That makes things a lot easier if you want a stress-free setup in Michigan.

15) South Lyon Light Show

YouTube video

Every December, I swing by the South Lyon Light Show because it’s easy to find and completely free. The display runs all month long.

The show starts at dusk and wraps up at 9:00 pm Sunday through Thursday. On Fridays and Saturdays, you get a little extra time—it goes until 9:45 pm.

They set up the lights at the corner of 690 McMunn Street. When I pull up, I tune my radio to 98.9 FM to catch the music synced to the lights.

There are signs asking people not to park on the lawns and to keep the music at a reasonable volume.

This show feels like a real local tradition. Families look forward to it every year.

When you visit, just remember to be considerate of the neighbors. If you want to avoid the crowds, weekdays are definitely the best bet.

Glenlore Trails stands out as a unique holiday experience in Commerce Township. Instead of a drive, you get a mile-long night walk through the woods, filled with lights and music.

It’s great for families, friends, or couples who want something a little different. The event only runs Thursday to Sunday evenings.

Evening hours bring a lively vibe to the place. The walk takes about an hour, and every year they add new interactive displays based on what people liked the year before.

You can grab snacks and drinks along the trail. Restrooms pop up at different points, so the route stays comfortable.

17) River Lights of Wonder

I checked out River Lights of Wonder at Riverside Church in Three Rivers, Michigan. This event has hit its seventh year and takes place on December 21 and 22.

They put on a full Christmas drama, a live nativity, and candlelight moments.

Families can explore a Candy Cane Maze and hop aboard the Lollipop Train outside. Inside, I found crafts, cookie decorating, and snow globe activities.

Santa waits in his special room for photos. The event is really meant for families and gives everyone a safe, indoor way to make some great memories.

18) Greenfield Village

I go to Greenfield Village to take in one of Michigan’s classic Christmas traditions. Every December, the open-air museum lights up with thousands of bulbs and decked-out historic homes.

Costumed interpreters walk around, showing how people celebrated the holidays in the past. As I stroll the village streets, I bump into carolers, horse-drawn wagons, and old-time shops.

You’ll find special treats, hot chocolate, and sometimes Santa himself. The whole thing really gives you a feel for American holiday traditions from different eras.

The place is huge, so wear comfy shoes. Events can get packed, and tickets sometimes sell out.

If you want to make sure you get in, buy your tickets early and keep an eye on the weather—most activities happen outdoors.

19) LMCU Ballpark

I stopped by LMCU Ballpark in Comstock Park for their holiday event and honestly, it’s all about simple, family-friendly fun. The ballpark throws hundreds of events every year, not just baseball games—Christmas light displays are a big hit.

Local families show up to see lights spread across the stadium. It creates this warm, easygoing holiday vibe that doesn’t feel rushed or overwhelming.

The place can fit over 10,000 people, which is kind of wild. You get indoor and outdoor seating, plus hospitality decks and suites, so even big groups can hang out and enjoy the lights together.

I saw the staff working hard to keep everything tidy. They’re pretty helpful, especially when the crowds pick up.

If you go during the holidays, expect more traffic near the ballpark, especially on weekends. I’d say check the schedule before you go and maybe plan to get there a bit early.

Parking’s organized and you can get in easily from the main road. That makes it simple for folks coming in from out of town.
